Lower Level of the Historic Cottage

The lower level of the Cottage contained everyday work spaces for the family: a root cellar, a pantry, and the summer cooking kitchen. In earlier years another room housed the coachmen. However, in 1900, after losing a foot in a railroad accident, Robert Tinker used two rooms in the lower level for an office and bedroom.

This level has been closed to the public for many years. In 2005, the Museum began restoring the space to its original appearance. The Museum hopes to open the rooms to tours by 2008.
